| PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) The Parish Religious Education program of Saint Maria Goretti Parish is intended for children in Grades 1 through 12 who attend public schools or private non-Catholic schools.Children in grades 1 through 7 attend on a weekly basis. Students in Grades 8 through 12 attend Jr./Sr. High classes on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted. Classes are held in the parish school as follows:
Little Church School A religious education program that ministers to the youngest members of our parish family. The program is comprised of children who are three, four, and five years of age. "Little Church School" takes place in the parish school, September to May, during the 9:30 and 11:30AM Masses on Sundays. | Liturgical Committee Members are dedicated to learning about the theology and practice of the Liturgy so that they can oversee and promote the highest quality of worship. | Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion These adults assist with the distribution of Communion both at Mass and through visits to the homebound. The ministry is open to all parishioners, college age or older, who are active in their sacramental lives. A diocesan workshop is required for preparation and training. | Lector Open to high school youth and adults. The Lectors proclaim the Scriptures at Mass. They are called upon about once every five weeks to proclaim the Word at a Sunday/Saturday evening liturgy. Lectors exchange assignments if unable to be present for an assigned Mass. Holy Days and special occasions are by volunteer sign up. | Scripture Study This group offers an on going reading, commentary, and discussion of the Holy Bible. Several programs from the Little Rock Scripture Study Series are run throughout the year. | Permanent Diaconate Preparation Program Open to men, thirty-five years and older (by the time of ordination). This is a five-year program in theology and pastoral ministry and it is required to serve the Church in the Order of Deacon. | Legion of Mary (Queen of Martyrs Presidium) Service to the temporal and spiritual needs of the parish centered and inspired by the life and holiness of Mary. | Parish Nurse Ministry Open to parishioners who are Registered Nurses and who serve their brothers and sisters when they need support to make decisions on health care. They provide education in health issues and referrals to the health services available in the area. | CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) Adults and young adults offer their time and expertise to the programs that serve our parish youth. The youth come from our parochial school as well as the public and private schools our children attend. | Tithe Totalers Teams of parishioners who rotate through a six-week schedule to count and bank the collections. | Outreach Providing opportunity to exercise the Corporal Works of Mercy through service to people in need. | Youth Group and Middle School Youth Youth of the parish in Grades 9-12 are invited to Participate in events of the Youth Group. Youth in the parish in Grades 6-8 are invited to participate in events of the Middle School Youth. | Pre-Jordan Team (Infant Baptism Preparation) Open to married couples with experience in facing the challenges of parenting and communicating Christian values in our society. | R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Those adults who are not Catholic and have an interest in becoming Catholic or would like to learn more about the Catholic faith are invited. Also invited are those who were baptized Catholic, but not brought up in the Catholic faith. Catechumens (those not yet baptized) and Candidates for Profession of Faith (those already baptized in another Christian denomination) are instructed in Catholic doctrine and practice. | Cantor Open to adults, college age or older, who are prepared to encourage and signal the participation of the congregation in song. They also provide any solo parts of the singing that are necessary to the liturgical prayer. Adult or Children's Choir Member Choir members add to the beauty of the liturgy. There are two choirs, one for adults and one for children, open to boys and girls in the fourth to eighth grades. | Minister of Hospitality Men and women of the parish, high school age and older can provide welcome & hospitality to the community by greeting people at the door, assist in seating, direct the Procession of the Gifts, receiving the Offering, and assist with the Communion Procession. They are assigned to the Mass of their choice and they take turns to provide hospitality at all the Masses. Contact: Fr. Dragon St. Joseph Society Assists families and individuals when the death of a loved one makes it difficult to cope with the grief and life changes that occur. Members of the ministry receive training. Open to adults who have been successful themselves in going on with their lives after the death of someone very important to them. Contact the Rectory The Building Committee Team of parishioners who provide an overview to the physical plant of the parish. This committee recommends maintenance or renovations to the Financial Council and the Pastor. These tasks include dusting, vacuuming, wiping of furnishings, and renewing the Holy Water fonts as well as the Holy Water reservoir in the vestibule. Each group sets its own time for gathering to clean. | Adult Education Recognizing that our education doesn't stop when we finish school, St. Maria Goretti Parish offers a comprehensive adult education program. On designated Thursday evenings, guest speakers are invited to present various topics related to the spiritual life, the life and teachings of the Church, and daily life in the world. All classes begin at 7:00PM with a reading from the Sacred Scriptures followed by the presentation and refreshments. the evening concludes at 9:00Pm with Night Prayer. Classes are held in the rectory meeting room unless other wise noted. Upcoming classes are announced regularly in the parish bulletin and in the Narthax. | Prayer Line Our Parish Prayer Line consists of five adult prayer groups. Requests for prayers for the prayer line may be given by calling Peg Nuss at 215-362-1976. Your prayer request is mentioned in the prayers of those on the line for 2 weeks and then included in their prayers for the following weeks in an inclusive prayer. Anyone wishing to become a member of the parish prayer line ministry can join at any time by calling Peg. The novena is held in the St. Maria Goretti Chapel and will include prayers for your special intentions and veneration of the relic of St. Peregrine and will conclude with the recitation of the Rosary. | Children's Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:30am and 12:00pm Mass every Sunday, with the exception of Christmas and Palm Sunday. Children's Liturgy is intended for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Children and their catechists are called forth during the Mass prior to the Liturgy of the Word. They reverently enter the side Chapel to hear God's Word proclaimed in the Sacred Scriptures in an age-appropriate language. | Volunteer Catechists Catechists are dedicated parishioners, just like yourselves, who minister to the spiritual and educational needs of over 1,000 students each year through our parish religious education programs. The programs include "Little Church School," the PREP, Vacation Bible School, and Children's Liturgy of the Word. Because of our great numbers, over 100 volunteers are needed each year to staff our programs. Please consider using your time and talent with the young members of our parish family.
